My Story

Let’s start with something every writer has thought at least once: “Do I even have what it takes to do this?”

You’re staring at a blank page, a blinking cursor mocking you, and a dozen questions rolling around your brain. Where do I start? How do I finish? What happens after I write “The End?” Is this worth it, or is it just another pipe dream?

I’ve been there. Trust me, I’ve been there.

When I decided to write my first book, I had big dreams and zero plans. I loved stories—loved the idea of creating something readers would enjoy—but I didn’t know the first thing about what it would take to turn that love into a career. It felt like looking at the top of a mountain from the bottom, the peak shrouded in clouds, the trail invisible.

And the worst part? I didn’t know anyone who had climbed that mountain.

Growing up, writing books wasn’t seen as a “real job.” I thought writers were magical creatures, born with a special talent and a secret handshake that let them into the world of publishing. They lived in New York City penthouses or in secluded cabins in the woods, cranking out books while editors fought over their work.

Meanwhile, I was… me. Just a regular person with bills to pay, a day job, and not a single clue where to begin.

But the dream wouldn’t go away. You know the one I’m talking about—the quiet voice in your head that says:

“You could do this. You should do this.”

I ignored that voice for a long time. I told myself I didn’t have the time, the talent, or the luck to write books. I convinced myself that writing was something other people did—people who had creative writing degrees, or insider connections, or natural genius.

Then, one day, I decided to stop lying to myself.

I asked myself a question that changed everything:

“What if I just tried?”

What if I stopped worrying about whether I was good enough? What if I sat down and actually put words on the page? Not perfect words. Not genius words. Just words.

So, I tried.

And it was a mess.

That first draft? Terrible. Worse than terrible. It was the kind of book that would make readers ask, “Who let this person near a keyboard?”

But you know what? It existed. It was real. I had written a book—a complete, full-length book that hadn’t existed before I sat down and decided to try. And as bad as it was, I couldn’t stop smiling, because for the first time, I realized that the top of that mountain wasn’t as far away as I thought.

I started learning. I devoured everything I could find about writing, editing, and publishing. I stumbled a lot—sometimes painfully—but I kept going. I finished that terrible first book, and then I wrote another. And another. Each one got a little better. Each one taught me something new.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped thinking of writing as an impossible dream and started treating it like a process. A job. Something that could be learned, step by step.

That’s when things started to click.

Why I Wrote This Book

I didn’t write this book because I think I have all the answers. I don’t. I wrote this book because I know what it’s like to start at zero:
