Welcome to Book Career In A Year
So you want to be an author? You're in the right place.
Book Career In A Year is designed for writers and aspiring authors just like you—people who dream of making a living (or at least a solid side income) by writing and publishing books. Whether you’ve written your first draft, are just starting, or want to take your writing to the next level, this site is your one-stop shop for turning that dream into reality.
I’m Nick Thacker, a full-time fiction author, and the VP of Author Success at Draft2Digital. I've been in the trenches, working with authors to help them build sustainable careers by mastering both the craft and the business of writing. But enough about me—let’s focus on you and how you can kickstart (or level up) your writing career!
Step 1:Assess Your Author Goals
Are you writing for fun, or do you want to turn this into a full-time gig? Maybe something in between? Whatever your goals, the first step is to get clear on them. Start with these questions:
- How many books do you want to write in the next year?
- Are you aiming to self-publish or go the traditional publishing route?
- Do you want to make a full-time income, or is this more of a passion project?
Don’t stress—your goals can change over time, and they probably will. But having a roadmap is crucial to knowing where to start.
Step 2:Take Action
Now that you've got a clearer sense of your goals, it’s time to put in the work. I’ve created a ton of resources to help you on every step of your journey. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll find:
